i grabbed this fall-like image down in south pasadena (sneaking into laurie's turf!). the leaves were so bright in the sunlight - orange is a color we see all winter long in southern california as trees try to decide whether or not they can stretch their green color through the cooler months.
I love the photo.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first moved to Pasadena in January 1991 from Palm Springs, there was what looked like a big, dead tree in my front yard. I talked to the property owner about having it removed because it was such an ugly eyesore.
Turned out it was a huge, mature Sycamore. The new leaves began to emerge a couple of months later.
I'm glad I didn't own the property at the time! I would have been responsible for the removal of a real gem.
I do own the property now, and that tree, plus the gigantic deodar cedars, contribute to my quality of life every day.
Aren't these trees amazing? I keep marveling at the color here. South Pas has so many liquid amber and other vivid colored trees.
ReplyDeleteI think 2009 may go down as one of our more prolific Fall-color winters. Still, I find autumn trees everywhere I go, and here we are mid-january. Beautiful shot.
