last week we finally made it over to the reyn - pasadena's only diner/vietnamese restaurant.
yes, you heard me.
from the time that they open in the morning until 3pm, the reyn serves as a classic bacon and eggs diner complete with 60s throwback decor. come 3pm, the menu shifts to entirely vietnamese cuisine - specializing in bowls of fantastically prepared phở. it was really a fun experience, and while i'm not an expert in this kind of food, i found it to be very tasty. my bowl came with a side platter that included sprouts, fresh basil, jalapenos, and a wedge of lime - all used to tweak the flavor of my bowl to my liking.
fun times for sure.
Their Vietnamese food is much better than their diner food.
ReplyDeleteTheir vietnamese food is the best, for Pasadena, relatively speaking.
ReplyDeleteI was gonna try their morning diner food, but if even the pulled porker doesn't like it then maybe I should wait for your own review on that!
I can't comment on their breakfasts, though. Their lunchtime Reuben was nothing special.
ReplyDeleteFriends of ours rave about the breakfast, but have never been there for Vietnamese. I guess to each his/her own!
ReplyDeleteNice photos...like the bottom une of the diner interior!
ReplyDeleteYep - it is a shame it was so empty...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the review! I've been meaning to check this place out.
ReplyDeleteokay, there are at least 2 vietnamese restaurants in pasadena that i know of:
ReplyDelete1) Siagon Cafe in Old Town
2) Indochine Cafe on Colorado and Mentor, upstairs
they're pretty good. check 'em out!
Ah yes, but none of those are a diner as well!
ReplyDeleteBut thanks for the heads up, Juhie.
