#9 - bike week

august will be the last month of the sky is big in pasadena.  

i have accepted a position at salford mennonite church in harleysville, pennsylvania.  we will be moving in september, so august will be my farewell month to the city of pasadena.  when we moved here from virginia i posted a list of the ten things i would miss most about harrisonburg.  i figured that would be a good way to end our time here, so each day i will be doing one final rundown of life in this great city.  i have prepared two lists - ten things i won't be sad to leave behind, and twenty of my absolute favorite things about pasadena.  we have arrived at the top ten things about life in pasadena.


#9 - bike week

for the most part, pasadena is a bike friendly city.  one of the best aspects is bike week - an annual event celebrating the city's bicycle community.  today's photo is a collage i created after this year's event (sorry, i'm reusing it) which was one of the best.

oh what a week it was.

another pasadena bike week has come and gone.  i wasn't able to get to everything i wanted to, but i did make it to several events including (clockwise from upper left) the bike to work celebration at city hall, bicycle valet in downtown los angeles at angel city brewing, bicycle riders during art night, and saturday's party to end bike week at one colorado.

bike week pasadena - 2010

in case you haven't noticed, bike week pasadena is in full swing. this annual event is a great time to get out on your bike and enjoy the city from two wheels. events are planned until the 22nd. check out the full details at their website.

last night i attended a presentation called "pasadena and the bicycle: a historical romance", which was held at the pasadena museum of history (my first time there). it was a fantastic event, opened by mayor bill bogaard and filled with historic details about cycling in pasadena. very informative and fun. plus, the event had some great food, new belgium beer, and a raffle in which i won a new cycling jersey! all in all, a fantastic event!

hey there pasadena. this week is pasadena's annual bike week. it includes a wide variety of events and bike rides, and city residents are encouraged to get out and ride their bicycles - to work, around town, or just around the block.

this photo was taken during last night's heaven on wheels ride as a part of pasadena bike week. i love the mix of red bicycle tail lights, the green traffic lights, and the dome of city hall in the distance. if you haven't had a chance to be a part of any of the festivities yet, at least check out the bike expo happening at one colorado today.
