two pasadena icons in the same photo. both have been featured on this blog from time to time, and quite often together - although rarely like today's photo.

pasadena from the south

i snagged this shot from the water tower hill in south pasadena while out on a recent bike ride. i like that you can see both the colorado street bridge, and the vista del arroyo hotel (both subjects will be featured in tomorrow's post).

the haze hanging in the sky is perfectly typical of southern california. part marine layer, part los angeles smog - it really makes picture taking a difficult task at times.

this shot is from a recent ride with our friends. perfectly pasadenian with a view of the colorado street bridge, as well as the old hotel.

photo request #4: rose covered pergola at ninth circuit court

michael coppess of the fantastic east of allen blog had a few suggestions for photos. this one in particular caught my attention. i snapped off the requested photo but found myself wondering if this structure ever becomes totally covered with roses, or if this is about its peak. interestingly i was once again informed by an employee that i couldn't take pictures (second time within a few weeks? see this post) - however this one was informed enough to say that they were permitted from the sidewalk.

sadly, the ever present smog makes this picture not as picturesque as I would have hoped.

i've already shown several pictures of the bridge, and one of vista del arroyo, but never both in the same image.

vista del arroyo hotel

a striking building which is now used for the us court of appeals. I wish this picture was a little sharper, but i love the color.
