pasadena bike week 2011

oh what a week it was.

another pasadena bike week has come and gone.  i wasn't able to get to everything i wanted to, but i did make it to several events including (clockwise from upper left) the bike to work celebration at city hall, bicycle valet in downtown los angeles at angel city brewing, bicycle riders during art night, and saturday's party to end bike week at one colorado.

one colorado tree lighting night

i took the baby for a stroll on friday night to check out the tree lighting ceremony at one colorado - part of old town pasadena's seasonal event calendar.  it was incredibly busy with a wide variety of events taking place - the tasty christmas treats being handed out, photos with santa, and the christmas movies being shown on the screen.  i'm not sure if baby A. knew what to make of the hustle and bustle, but i thought it was a fun time.

getting hosed?

the newest art installation at one colorado is this fascinating fountain ornament involving plenty of garden hoses.  if you want to learn a bit more, click on the above photo and zoom in to read the lengthy statement on the piece.

clune's pasadena theatre at one colorado

i've walked through one colorado many times before, but it was just recently that i noticed the faded lettering above the outdoor movie screen. has this "advertisement" always been there? was clune's an actual historic theater in old town?

it appears i need some help from pasadena's historians on this one...

twas the day before christmas

the tree at one colorado plaza, all decked out in its christmas glory. whether you celebrate christmas or not, i hope you can find a moment in the next few days to enjoy the holidays!

earth harp at one colorado

it is a little hard to tell, but the image above is of an earth harp played by a group called m.a.s.s. we stumbled upon this outdoor concert while walking around old town a little while ago. interesting stuff.

walking the red carpet to gold class cinemas

pasadena's newest movie theater is actually more of a lavish movie-going experience. gold class cinemas just opened their doors to movie goers looking for cushy seating, plenty of legroom, and the chance to order food right from your seat. of course luxury like this comes at a price - over $25 per ticket.

we don't have plans to go any time soon, but i'm interested if any pasadenians experienced this yet...

cupcakes and the king

dots cupcakes just opened up a second pasadena location at the one colorado shopping area. i'm not sure what elvis has to do with cupcakes, but i like the mixed media of this window display.

second stop of art night was at one colorado for yoko ono's wish tree project.

"an art installation that consists of 21 living crape myrtle trees installed amongst the cafe tables and chairs in the courtyard of one colorado. visitors are invited to write their wishes on pieces of paper and hang them on the tree branches."


my favorite wish was one that said "i hope the trees don't ever hang wishes on us"

my good friend debbie asked if i had ever considered doing a series of the same subject from several different perspectives. i liked that idea, and although this probably isn't quite what she had in mind, i'm going to feature pasadena's art night for the next 5 days. the same event, 5 different photos, all on the same night. i hope you enjoy!

three dog bakery

one of the more interesting businesses in the one colorado shopping area is this bakery specifically for our canine friends. i find it a little strange, but if we had a dog we may feel differently. this company is part of a much larger chain of stores across the usa and canada and curiously also in japan and hong kong.

high end italian eatery on the one colorado plaza stars in this week's pasadena neon.

bike trip update: one of the people on our ride works for the philadelphia inquirer. while we were riding he completed a new episode of his weekly video series "outdoor philadelpioa". you can see it right here.

the salvation army is in good company

this spot near the one colorado shopping area makes me chuckle every time i walk by. it's funny that the first meeting location of the salvation army is now populated by a variety of female mannequins. hope you enjoy it as much as i do!
