disney concert hall interior

on tuesday night we went to see chanticleer perform their annual christmas concert at the disney concert hall. it really was a fantastic concert. just like last week, no photography was allowed during the concert (and in fact i'm not sure i was allowed to take this picture!). the hall was pretty fantastic in terms of the design, accoustics, and just the overall layout.

Nice photo, Ben. And I'm pretty sure you weren't allowed to take it. ;-)

I love this hall. I have subscription seats behind the orchestra. Those risers on the stage can be lowered or raised independently and electronically from entirely flat to whatever height or configuration they need. The benches in the center directly behind the stage can also be lowered to accomodate a choral group, such as when the LA Master Chorale accompanies the LA Philharmonic. The array of "sticks" in the center behind the stage is the pipe organ. You can see the console at the bottom in the center. A remote console can also be put in the front of the stage and hooked up to the organ if they want the organist to be on the stage rather than up in the organ. The wood in the Hall is douglas fir, which has great acoustic properties and is used to make violins and other string instruments.

Bw, awesome pic! It almost looks surreal.

I think I'm finally fixing into what your grad school major is - Music.

just one of my many extracurricular activities. Grad school should be holistic, especially when you are attempting to study theology.
