how high?

after several years of taking photos, i'm still not quite sure on why some pictures turn out looking warped as this photo does.  i'm sure it has something to do with the curvature of the camera lens, but that is as far as i get.

anticipation!

we are anxiously awaiting the birth of our first child. so many unknowns -

when will it arrive?
what is the gender?
who will it look like?
what are we going to name it?

so much to think about.

preparation

my wife meredith took a few photos recently, and graciously allowed me to post them on my blog. i'll be featuring her work over the next few days.

today's photo is of our clothesline filled with some baby clothes hung out to dry. our home is slowly filling with all we need to survive the arrival of our new baby in may!


ps - rumor has it there is a blogger picnic happening today! wish i could attend.

wind

i was going to continue my series of photos from the u2 concert on the weekend, but we've had some strange weather that needs documentation. yesterday afternoon the wind picked up and carried all kinds of grime, dust, and ash with it through pasadena and the surrounding area. compare today's picture with this one or this one taken from the same vantage point on much calmer days. see how the trees are bending in today's image? i took this shot yesterday at dusk to show how much our trees are being abused by the change in weather.

the storm also deposited a fine dust all through our apartment until we realized what was going on and began closing our windows. ugh.

someone mentioned that the winds may reach as high as 70 mph today. hang on to your hat.

the urban farmer

in the midst of auditing a fantastic class called creation care and sabbeth economics, i've decided to turn our balcony into something of a garden. it is modest right now - only a few herbs, a bell pepper plant, and two tomato plants - but it's a start!

it's raining, it's pouring

i don't get very inspired to go take pictures when it is raining. usually in pasadena i don't have that excuse, but lately we've had quite a bit of rain - like maybe more rain than we've had the entire year and a half we've lived in southern california.

it appears that some of my blogging neighbors are also feeling a little wet. case in point here, here, here, and here.

you may recognize this view - it's another shot of the perspective we get from our balcony.

we recently moved to a different apartment within our building. one of the benefits of our new place - besides the extra room - is that it has a balcony. this is our nightly view of the setting sun, which perfectly silhouettes the palm trees that line los robles ave. pretty cool, eh?
