sending out our prayers

it is exciting when pasadena is featured in the news. 

but when the reason is because caltech scientists are talking about the aftermath of one of the largest earthquakes in recorded history, there is reason to calm that excitement.

our thoughts and prayers are with the nation of japan, and all who were touched by this week's huge earthquake.

one of pasadena's fire stations, #34 is located on the corner of caltech's campus.  i like the low profile, and the scraggly pine tree makes me think this picture was taken in the northwest or something.

this photo needs little explanation. a photo of the beckman auditorium at caltech, taken the other night before the wailin' jennys concert. that fountain just pops, doesn't it?

one of the most captivating things about the beckman auditorium is the magnificent ceiling. if you've been, you understand that this picture doesn't quite do it justice.

wailin' jennys at caltech

last night i ventured to my first show at caltech's beckman auditorium. we were there to see the canadian folk group, the wailin' jennys. and oh my, did they ever put on a great show! i sure was proud of my fellow canadians. oh, and the beckman was a pretty interesting venue. i'll have a few pictures of it in the coming week.

yesterday evening i happened to be at caltech while a wedding reception was taking place. i was hearing some lovely music and when i looked around i discovered this musician illuminated in the archway.

beckman auditorium

this striking building doesn't really match the look of the rest of caltech's campus, but is impressive - and stands out even more when contrasted with a stormy sky and looming mountains. it functions as the campus entertainment and academic event center.

my very creative sister suggested that i post a picture of people sitting on a bench. she also noticed that my blog often lacks people as the subject and thought i should branch out a bit (she's right). since we have family in town, today's post is starring them on our recent visit to caltech. a beautiful pasadena location, family, jacaranda tree, rose garden, and... people on a bench :)
