this is the barrage of signage at pasadena's brittish pub. i count at least a dozen different brands posted in various shapes and forms. and surprisingly, there doesn't seem to be any discrepancy over what is posted - everything from the cheap macro beer, miller lite, to the belgian trappist monk brewery, chimay.
one pasadena photo posted every day from the beautiful crown city. join me on my journey!

pliny the younger at lucky baldwins
pliny the younger is a triple india pale ale made by russian river brewing in santa rosa, ca. for whatever reason, it has been taking the beer world by storm this year. it recently took over top spot as the highest rated beer at beeradvocate.com. production is so limited on this magical elixir that it has caused some havoc in the los angeles beer community.
on saturday we were able to track down the elusive beverage at lucky baldwin's in pasadena. we arrived early and staked out a table. servers started pouring pliny at 2pm, and a short twenty minutes later, their supply was finished. our table was fortunate to land three goblets of the stuff (my friend dave poses with in the above photo), and let me tell you, it was a delicious experience. i'm not sure that it deserves the best beer in the world title, but it certainly ranks right up there in my mind.

dual post: la canada-station fire/belgian beer fest at lucky baldwins
forest fires continue in la county. i've been compiling a significant list of bloggers who have been working on the continuing story which you can find at yesterday's post.
the above photo is what i had planned to run today. however with the continued presence of the fires, it is taking a back seat today. never the less, if this heat is making you thirsty, head to lucky baldwins. much like the ipa festival that i attended a few months ago, this one is worth attending for a pint or two. today is the last day to check it out.

ipa festival at lucky baldwins
the last thing i want to talk about from last weekend (which is now 4 days in the past) was to head to lucky baldwin's for their india pale ale festival. for $8 you get your first selection and a festival glass, which can then be re-filled for $3 or $4 depending on which beer. far from the most incredible deal out there, but i'm a sucker for ipa's, and their list includes several i've never had including port brewing's 3rd anniversary ipa (pictured above).
i heard that the festival was extended until this weekend, so stop by either of their locations.

crime scene at lucky baldwin's
lucky baldwin's is an english pub just down the street from the castle green (with one of the best beer selections in pasadena i might add). which is why i was surprised to see a van with ncis printed on the side. the crowd of people and trucks full of equipment confirmed that the tv show ncis was filming an episode in pasadena.
a cool aspect of living in pasadena is that the city posts any filming activity on their website. so if you want to do some star searching, you just figure out what is filming, and where it's filming at.
