heading south today into laurie's territory (south pasadena) to check out the mix n' munch cereal and grilled cheese cafe.

wait...

seriously?  grilled cheese and cereal?  yes, you read that right.  if your inner five-year-old needs to dine out in south pas, you should check this place out.  plenty of mixed up cereal options, plus a very delicious selection of grilled cheese (mine included sliced apples and gouda on a hearty wheat bread).

de milo design studio

recently i ventured down to south pasadena to check out the brand new studio space of de milo design.  this incredible space (located on mission st) is owned and operated by our friend annika, and it is the perfect place if you are looking for an eco-friendly and fair trade shop for your printing needs.

what's more, annika is also a local blogger who documents the process of many of her creations, as well as the stories behind the products she sells, and the people and parts of the world where they are made.

mamma's brick oven pizza

heading to south pasadena for today's photo. what's better than really good pizza? really good pizza with friends of course. here jon and adam model the delicious pizza we picked up the other day for a movie night. fun times.

gus's barbeque

by far, my favorite restaurant in south pasadena. although it can be a little pricey, they have some fantastic ribs, pulled pork, and barbecued chicken. the atmosphere is nice, and the service has been great on the two occasions we've been there.

oh ya, and it doesn't hurt to have a classy neon sign.

the rialto theater

i may be stepping on laurie's toes here - after all, she is our south pasadena daily photo blogger, and does have a soft spot for this beautiful old building(click on that link to get her take on this place). i hope she doesn't mind!

balance

one of the great perks of riding your bicycle in the hills around pasadena means you get some interesting intersections like the one pictured above. when we moved to california i had no idea how cycling would change. when we would go for rides back in virginia, most routes would be rolling hills. here you have the choice of flat, or straight up and straight down.

rollin' into south pasadena

we got two 30+ mile rides in this weekend. one of them took us over the bridge which crosses over the 110 from highland park to south pasadena (where this photo was taken).

a taste of fall in january

i grabbed this fall-like image down in south pasadena (sneaking into laurie's turf!). the leaves were so bright in the sunlight - orange is a color we see all winter long in southern california as trees try to decide whether or not they can stretch their green color through the cooler months.

if you've ever taken the gold line from pasadena to la, you've probably seen this sweet red brick building. it has some tasty treats inside too, stop by sometime.

if you are a native pasadenian and are wondering where in town this is located, it's actually found in south pasadena as the tower reads if you view it from a different angle.

welcome to the city of south pasadena

it strikes me as odd that south pasadena is its own city. wikipedia seems to show that it was all about having a bit more political power and that is why the separation/distinction happened.

south pasadena farmers market

something magical about a farmers market in the evening. go check it out if you are in the area. every thursday from 4-8pm - so much to enjoy.
