surviving the heat

it seems like every year we have a heat wave that is worth writing about.  the past few days have been that moment.  pasadena and los angeles county has seen record breaking temperatures for this time of year, making it almost unbearable to do anything outdoors.

after temperatures hovering around 110 degrees (43 for my celsius friends), i'm looking forward to a forecast of temperatures in the 80s.

another reflection on city hall

it was only a few days ago that i featured this image of the dome of city hall reflected in a fountain.  however this one takes a different approach, and i think works just as well.

hope you enjoy!

golden state

i don't mind the sunspots on this photo because they usually appear when you take a picture straight at the sun. the reason i wanted to take this was because of how illuminated the ocean was. see that golden sliver on the horizon? the day was clear enough, and we were up high enough, to see the pacific ocean, and it was shining like gold.

more skywatch friday photos can be found right here!

burning in the sun

we've been blessed (?) with a few weeks of 90+ degree days in a row. this week we're looking at more of the same, although a few days are projected to "dip" into the 80s. i can't remember the last time it rained...

i do feel fortunate that we rarely have humid days, and every night pasadena cools down to a very reasonable temperature in the 60s/70s - perfect sleeping temperature.

"watanga ma tula pum"

when i was 10 my family spent a year in a tiny village in northern ghana doing mission work. the only phrase i remember clearly in mampruli (the local dialect) is the title of today's post. it means "the sun is very hot" - which is fitting because the sun has been very hot in pasadena lately. yesterday i went out for a bike ride at 5:30 and my laptop informed me that it was 102 degrees. the high yesterday was 108. today we're expecting a much calmer 97. at least it isn't very humid here.

breaking from the clouds

this shot of the sun poking through was actually taken by my lovely wife - through the window of a car.
