the norton simon museum

i haven't been, but my wife claims that it is a fantastic art museum. pasadena has quite selection of museums for a town of this size, i'm sad to say there are quite a few i still have yet to visit.

I agree with your wife. I'm a big fan of Van Gogh's portrait of his mother. He painted his mom green and it's an absolute scene stealer. If you take along your student I.D. you get in for free. (I think).

I try to go any time I'm in LA. I find galleries like the Norton Simon very calming, as long as there aren't any school groups of course.

Great idea. That sounds like a nice way to experience a new city - by visiting the quiet of its inner sanctuaries. I did that on a weekday in DC and although it was a little busy, it felt really cool to wander galleries in the middle of the day.
