back to back cathedral pictures?

yesterday i featured a photo of a los angeles cathedral.  today you get to see a glimpse at orange county's crystal cathedral - an incredible structure in its own right (regardless of their current financial situation).

This is a great image. IMHO the politics, the morality, the whatever it is that is associated with the subject just doesn't matter. Its the art that matters when looking at an image. This is a wonderful multi dimensional picture. Very clever, great colors. Very well done.

Loving both your cathedral shots, Ben. You know I'm not a religious person, but one can't deny that throughout the ages of humankind, people have put their greatest resources into cathedrals and religious art.

I find myself struggling to figure out the balance between spending money to build a (lavish) religious gathering place and spending money to help solve critical human problems. I tend to lean on the latter... but I do see value in the aesthetic appeal. Just wish it didn't dominate the role of many churches.

That would be an interesting discussion to have with the people who raise the money to build these edifices. I'd guess they say the structures inspire people, both to give and in their own spiritual searches. I wonder if that's proven.

It would be hard to prove, but I guess larger, more impressive churches, tend to have a larger group of people who come out to worship, and thus they could provide a bigger financial contribution to local and global projects.

Unfortunately many of the megachurches of today are under financial difficulty (in large part because of crazy building projects, and in other because of the financial collapse in the country).
