hibiscus!

if only i knew my plants a little better. these make me think of what hula girls wear in their hair, or from the pattern on so many boarder shorts. but they grow on our street and made for a great picture.

once again faithful readers, i need your help to identify what flower is pictured. (it only took an anonymous poster 2 hours to give me what I needed!)

Oh, they're all over the place. It's on the tip of my tongue.

Nice close-up shot, Ben. Lovely color, too.

Oh how lovely, Ben! I'm glad anonymous told us what it was. It was on the tip of my tongue, too, and driving me crazy that I couldn't think of it.

I just love the way that Southern California blooms, don't you? WHen I first came here from Texas, I couldn't believe the abundance of colorful plants. I also couldn't believe how easy it is to garden and grow things here. Everything grows here!

Very true! IF you water the heck out of it. We moved into our apartment last August. A week or two of neglecting the flowers that the previous owner had planted and we totally scorched our flower bed. We pulled it all out and planted a cactus garden.

Perfect growing climate if you have a good water source - and people who remember to actually water stuff :)

True, but I'm starting to feel guilty about watering things unless they produce food. Points for the cactus, Ben!
