photo request #6: roscoe's chicken n waffles

not a whole lot of neon going on in this one, but enough to count as a friday photo. we still have yet to visit this interesting establishment, but i'm sure we'll get there someday. roscoe's is kind of a chain restaurant, they have several locations around l.a. including this one on lake avenue in pasadena.

this photo was requested by the fabulous dc confidential blog. head on over and look around, janet has some fantastic pictures!

oh, and in case you were wondering, this was taken a little while ago with my old camera.

Mmm. Fattening. In a good way.

I'm ashamed of myself. 20 years in Los ANgeles and I still have never been to a Roscoes!

Petrea - who knew syrup on fried chicken made so much sense?

Laurie - Maybe you need to make this your birthday dinner location :) either way it makes me feel okay that in one year I have yet to make the pilgrimage.

syrup on fried chicken is ok, but the chicken gravy on waffles is better! Mmmmm.

Always good to hear from you Kris, regardless of if it's just a copy and paste.

Caltechgirl... I'm speechless. I need to go try this for myself.

Caltechgirl. Really? I have to think about it.

Yes.

I've been to the Roscoe's on Gower. I must confess, I don't get it. My mother's a southerner and and competing fried chicken recipes is part of our tradition. I expected good from Roscoe's. I was really disappointed. Bad night?, maybe.

Welcome back!

Hmm... when you grow up with a southerner as head chef in your family, you're bound to be disapointed by anything that gets labeled "southern cooking" in Southern California.

You would think, so but thats not necessarily true. My partner with Scottish/Canadian roots felt the same way. Tell you what, when you go, photograph your order, post it and tell us what you think. If it's a thumbs up, I'll give it another try. I'd like to be wrong.

I heard about chicken-and-waffles for the first time on a sitcom a week or two back - and I still wasn't sure whether it was something real, or something the scripwriters had made up for the sake of the storyline. Now I know! :)

Something we (and by "we" I mean Paul and I, not all South Africans!) enjoy eating is french fries dipped in vanilla ice cream - so I imagine we'd be quite keen on chicken and waffles too.

The joys of blogging include new culinary ideas. What a fascinating concept. Salty and hot, with sweet and cold.
