revisiting the hat

today we revisit an old theme and return to a more recent theme.

yep, that's right - today's post is the first simultanious friday sky watch and friday neon post on the same day! also, this is a throwback of sorts - the hat was featured in one of my very early blog posts.

pasadena gold company

continuing with my weekly neon theme (see the "open" sign in the window?), this company on green street tells it like it is. i find it interesting that the sign is silver in color, and also seems to be peeling a little bit... doesn't make me have too much faith in the quality of gold that is sold there. but some of you in pasadena-land might be able to tell me otherwise!

if you are dressing up as a pirate tonight, this may be the place to find your buried treasure. happy halloween everyone!

there is a lot going on in this picture and i'm not really sure that i can explain it. enough said.

friday night lights

this is the last image from a series that started on monday following the pasadena art walk.

lights are strung up at the paseo shopping plaza throughout the year, but this art night banner was added for the weekend event.

okay, this is kind of a weak friday neon post, but i was struggling to fit it into my theme for the week.

in-n-out

what if we just pretend that today is friday, and i didn't forget about my weekly theme yesterday. okay? a no-brainer post, i can't believe this fine establishment hasn't been featured on this blog to date. i'll post a picture of what i ate in an upcoming feature.

i like how the moon snuck into this picture.

for those wanting a full review of art night, i plan to give it plenty of attention in this coming week.

cafe verde

a little friday neon for you today. for those not familiar, this is a recurring theme on this blog when friday rolls around. today's shot is of the quaint cafe verde on green street (catch the connection there?). as you can see, this tiny shop is expanding with construction underway next door.

i've never been, but cafe pasadena swears it is a pretty great place to eat. with a name like that, how can you question the insight?

surplus

but i'm not really sure what there is a surplus of... i've been by here several times but it looks like they either do most of their business out the backdoor, or they are closed. i love this classic old neon sign look, pasadena's got a good suply of them.

don't look now, but i turn 26 today! breaking beyond that quarter century mark. i'll be celebrating up in sonoma valley with some close friends, should be great.

canyon city liquor

although this sign probably doesn't really do much anymore, at some point it had some neon lights shining from it. it was found just east of pasadena in azusa, ca - nicknamed the canyon city - hence the name of the liquor store.

laurie of the fantastic glimpses of south pasadena site suggested i track down this neon sign on colorado. here it is. friday neon and a photo request all in the same day!

mezbaan indian cuisine

pasadena has several really great indian restaurants. i've never been to this one but i'm enticed by the banner advertising a lunch buffet. it's located in an area of old town that we don't get to very often, so i'm sure that is part of the reason we've never gone.

photo request #7: images of fuller seminary

petrea over at pasadena daily photo recently mentioned that i needed to feature my very own school more often. she's right of course, so i'll delay the bike trip photos one more day in favor of some friday neon and an image of fuller's student center.

a few notes about fuller theological seminary:

- largest multi-denominational seminary in the world
- almost 5000 students from 67 countries
- 108 christian denominations represented
- in addition to the main campus in pasadena there are 6 extension sites across the western usa

high end italian eatery on the one colorado plaza stars in this week's pasadena neon.

bike trip update: one of the people on our ride works for the philadelphia inquirer. while we were riding he completed a new episode of his weekly video series "outdoor philadelpioa". you can see it right here.

jake's

jake's on colorado claim to have some amazing burgers. i need to try them out. they also have billiards, which they advertise on top of the store in neon. the restaurant looks small, so the pool tables must be in the back or downstairs or something.

photo request #6: roscoe's chicken n waffles

not a whole lot of neon going on in this one, but enough to count as a friday photo. we still have yet to visit this interesting establishment, but i'm sure we'll get there someday. roscoe's is kind of a chain restaurant, they have several locations around l.a. including this one on lake avenue in pasadena.

thai dishes

one of the first places we ate at in pasadena. we tried it when we were on a school visit to fuller based on the recommendation of our friend's, emiley and joel. it was a great recommendation, and now i'll pass it on to you if you have not been yet. happy friday!

tomorrow is my sister's wedding. not sure if i'll have any photos up this weekend, but you can be sure i'll have some by monday (i hope!).

i can't find much about this place, but it is acceptable material for my friday neon quest. anyone know anything about it? it looks like it could have some stories...
