hanging out with our friends in nickel creek

i'm on an amazing streak of great concerts right now. on thursday we went down to l.a. to check out the watkin's family hour. those nickel creek fans out there may recognize sara and sean watkins - two of the three members of the band. they put on an amazing show most thursday nights when they aren't out there touring the country. a little bit folk, a bit rock, a bit blue grass, and a lot of awesome! largo at the coronet has a tiny back room that holds about 5o people when they pack in tight. the band when we were there consisted of sara on fiddle and vocals, sean on guitar and vocals, a piano player, upright bass player, and steel guitar player. i only recognized 3 songs, but had a big grin on my face the entire time.

the above picture is of (from left to right) our neighbor alan, sara watkins, sean watkins, and our neighbor jon.

Was this 2 weeks past on Thursday, the 6th?
How long did it take you guys to bike down there?

Those Watkin's family members sure look uneasy between your 2 neighbors!

Cafe - it was actually just this past Thurs, the 20th. Our neighbors are shady characters :) No wonder the Watkin's look uneasy.

Tim and Deb - you are very right. Thanks for coming with us!

Oh, and we didn't bike - hard to fit 8 people on my handlebars.

I'm not actually close enough with the band to know.

I'm glad you got to see them!! They put on an amazing show.. and the Largo is a dream.. One of my favorite places.

Did they have any special guests show up? (Jon Brion, Fionna Apple, Gabe Witcher, Benmont, Willy Watson???)

This photo is great.

They all said their names so quickly I didn't catch them. The piano player seemed to be a pretty big deal.

Have you heard they are putting on a Christmas show with a bunch of special guests? I think it's December 11th.

yeah! their piano player is Benmont.. he played with Tom Petty... he is amazing.

That Christmas show is going to be AMAZING I bet! I think we went to their Christmas show last year, or the year before.... they sang Christmas songs and the audience sang along...
