t. boyle's tavern

thanks to brigham yen, i discovered that pasadena had a new watering hole opening up. i visited t. boyle's the other night with a friend to check it out. while it is kind of off the beaten path (tucked behind the academy 6 theater), it has a nice rustic charm and plenty of tvs tuned to various sporting events. their beer tap selection is decent, and they have an assortment of pool tables and shuffle board games to keep you occupied. an interesting place with a relaxed vibe.

i have to say thank you to my friend dave for offering his camera phone when i realized that i did not have my camera with me.

Yeah, I've known about this joint 4 about a year. It's taken about that long to finally open up! So long in fact, bw, I was beginning to think their outside painted wall sign was just some mural unrelated to any biz going on there!

It's not really off the beaten path...unless you think being next to the Ice House and a block away from Lake & Colorado is.

Proximity isn't the problem - the fact that you have to go down an alley to even see it may be.

I stopped in the other afternoon for a couple pints. They weren't supposed to be open yet, it was only about two o'clock, but the doors were open and he said he'd sell me a beer, so I went in. I liked it. Nothing spectacular, but a nice alternative to most of the places in Old Town.

Looks like a great place to grab a drink. Thanks for the info!

pulledporker - I totally echo that sentiment - a good alternative to old town.

Gave it a try this evening, and I loved the Fire Rock pale ale. I'm glad there's a decent bar I can walk to! Thanks Ben!

I love that part of town so it doesn't seem off the beaten path to me. Not my type of place because of the TVs, but thanks for your review. I love good beers.

we walked here last week! I love the good beers on tap. the guys who work there are really nice. I dont love the Tvs, but I am willing to overlook that!

Ya, a neat place to have in town.

Don't give it a miss just because of the TVs. The TVs were only on the wall where the bar is, as far as I could tell. There's a neat upstairs/balcony - so you could grab a pint and hang out up there. I was just glad that it was a reasonably quiet place. It also looks like they have the beginnings of a stage - maybe they'll have live music in the future?

Yes, the guy we talked to said they were working at getting a live music license.

used to be Toe's Tavern and where the TVs are, used to be a board of all the beers they offered...if you drank one of everyone of them, you'd get one of any one of them free...but that was...a few years ago.

more than once I had a limo driver outside of there ask me if I was "a friend of Bill W's"...which once I figured out who "Bill W" was...not many folks would admit they were AA'ers outside the Tavern!

glad it's being used again...great little hole in the wall

This use to be the Handlebar Saloon a decade ago. My old hang out back when I was ??? young! The Original Bar and Moose are still there and they always had a stage for live music. Some of my fondest times I spent in that bar playing pin ball and dancing to the great rock bands that played. It's about time someone opened it back up. Cheers
