distant lands

this image is of pasadena's fantastic travel store - distant lands. the store is part book store, part clothing store, part traveler supply store, part map store, and part awesome. it is a dangerous store if you aren't really planning a trip, but have money to spend - the perfect place for the wannabe world traveler.

Back before grad school, when I used to be able to take two or three vacations a year, my favorite part of planning a trip was spending an hour in here on a Saturday afternoon picking out travel books, then heading across street to Lucky's and having a few beers while reading the books.

This is one of the (constantly diminishing) stores that is truly unique in Old Town, and I hope people always consider at least browsing DL for books before going to Barnes & Noble or Borders. Even if you don't buy anything, at least give them a chance first.
