riding the coast

here's another picture from our recent bike trip.  this one is of me riding down the huntington beach path in the sun instead of the rain!  i'll have a few more photos over the next few days.

bike trip, 2011

i've taken a few great bike trips over the years, so when my friend andrew suggested that we spend our spring break riding our bikes, i was all ears.  you may remember andrew from my california league ballpark bicycle tour from a few years ago.  andrew suggested riding some california coast, and when we figured out how much time we had, we decided to head south, hit up some regional breweries, and ride the amtrak train back home.

we left on monday, and as you can see from the photo above, we ran in to some rainy weather.  i will post a few more photos from our journey over the next few days.

riding for my life

about a year ago i announced that i had collected and saved enough money to buy a new bicycle. many of my faithful readers donated to my cause, and i couldn't believe it when i actually got to take it out for the first ride.

if you look closely at this image you'll see that my odometer just passed 3000 miles. 3000 miles in just over one year of riding. i'm pretty happy with that.

a little poking around the internet revealed that driving those miles in our midsize car would have added about 1.65 tons of carbon emissions to the atmosphere.

go ride your bike!

back from the bike trip

i'm back in pasadena now after a week of riding from pittsburgh to dc via bike paths and campgrounds. i'm exhausted but i also had a fantastic time.

for those looking to waste a few minutes, i've posted the rest of the photos from the trip online.

riding in the tour de france

the tour de france is over for another year - i'm already looking forward to next year. it has been so hot in pasadena that my friend tim and i decided to pedal our bicycles indoors on our stationary trainers while we watched the tour on tv.

of course our wives found this pretty humorous... but i think it was ingenious!

another picture of my new friend

boy, do i ever love my new bike. i know being a show off isn't exactly a desirable quality, but i can't help myself! not sure if i've ever listed the specifics of this bike, but they can be found right here. this image is on the los robles overpass which is on top of the 210.

just one of the many things in my life i am thankful for. happy thanksgiving everyone!

a taste of my casseroll

finally a picture of the new bike. it arrived with fenders on, but because of our climate down here they were taken off right away. taking her out for a ride to the donut man today. should be fun! appropriately this picture of the "salsa casseroll" was taken in the kitchen.

thanks once again to those who supported ben's bicycle quest!
