afternoon at the rose bowl

yesterday we took in our first game at one of pasadena's great landmarks. we got our tickets free through a promotion with the pasadena star news, which was pretty cool. not only is it a national historic landmark, but it has also been host to five super bowls, the 1984 summer olympics, and the world cup of soccer.

oh, and ucla actually won the game! imagine that.

Cool, Ben. Tell me about that promotion! I was thinking of going, but it takes so much time out of the day!

I'll send you one or two of my Rose Bowl photos to your gmail address.

The other day while I was wandering around trying to find the Seinfeld tour bus, I ran across an info table for the Pasadena Star News. They had a deal running where if you payed $10 you got 8 weeks of the weekend paper, a large coupon book, and two tickets to a Rose Bowl game. Seemed like a pretty good deal to us!

Very good deal!

This is great! You know, I've never been inside the Rose Bowl Stadium, just on the grounds. Such a deal you got!

I've been catching up on your posts this week and enjoyed your Art Night series.

bw, as i began reading your post on this game, i said 2 myself: "well, did you get them for free? who would pay to see this game."

And, next sentence you say you did get them FREEEE!! Good job.

it was my k9 intuition at work.

what zoom did u use? i don't think this pix can be improved on. Good job.

Petrea, never been in the rose bowl!? You gotta get out more!

No zoom on this one Cafe. Just a little cropping once it was on the computer.

The fact that you call it "the world cup of soccer" further points to the fact that you are a baseball fan and not a soccer fan. HAHA 'World Cup' will suffice my friend.

Tim, Tim, Tim. My poor misguided friend. Yes, I am first and foremost a baseball fan, but the tournament associated with baseball is the World Baseball Classic.

A quick Wikipedia search notes that there are at least 31 sports which lay claim to the term "World Cup" - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_cup

When I made this post I was mostly refering to our friends in the Commonwealth who would hold the World Cup of Rugby or the World Cup of Cricket on par with the FIFA World Cup of Soccer.

I trust you will be riding your new bike around the Rose Bowl. It's a nice loop within the city without many cars or stop signs. At least it used to be back in the early '80s when I used to ride there. You just have to watch out for errant golf balls!

PJA - the Rose Bowl loop is a pretty nice feature of Pasadena. But it gets old pretty fast. We like to get up into the hills around there. More challenging, still low traffic volume, and no pedestrians to have to watch out for.
