targeting
lots of stuff going on here. lines, shapes, color, contrast - all of it acting like a giant target drawing you inside. intentional? i'll let you decide.
Amazing what they've done with the old Robinson's site!
Bits of the old store still shine through and this staircase is one of them. I used to ask my mother or grandmother to let me go up those stairs because the case was sooooo wide for a small child.
In the old Robinson's store, the furniture was on the second floor, and clothing was on the first. As I recall, at the end a lot of the clothing was clearance clothing. Their more successful stores were in the malls, so this was a lonely place. It's no wonder that May Dept. stores was eager to sell off the location.
I'm not a huge fan of the architecture, but I'm really glad they kept it and didn't replace the building with a big, ugly box.
And I admit, I've bought way more at that Target than I ever did when it was Robinson's. It's fun to take my kids there and tell them about how they were there as babies when it was a different store.

Yup! That place has sucked me inside on more than one occasion!
This is a stunning composition, Ben.

I love the lines and order of this pic.
I really need to get there 2day! If I see you there I'll wave.
Trish (and those native Pasadenians), tell us more about what this Target store used to be!

I vote intentional. That particular Robinson's was dead by the late 70's as was all of old town.
