brookside park

every single park space in pasadena has one of these colorful signs denoting the name of the park, a tile mosaic picture, and the city of pasadena. i've recently been thinking that it might be a fun goal to try and capture a picture of each and every one... hmm...

I've been waiting for someone to capture all 2,345,765 of those tombstone park signs. Thank You, BW!!

Now I'm not saying I've committed - unless you all think this is a wonderful idea...

There are 23 of them, so have at it! I approve wholeheartedly of this project, Ben.

For a city of fewer than 150,000 people, we're very fortunate to have so many parks as well as everything the Arroyo Seco has to offer.

Very cool. So I now know how many I have to track down. Does each one have a "tombstone" as Cafe put it?

They were made with kids over at the Armory during the first Gulf War. I know because one of my super uber liberal friends led the children's workshops for one of the parks. She began by opening up the topic of current affairs. The result was the kids came up with images of guns and bombs. Lets just say the tiles never went up and said friend's services were no longer needed......

Ben, yes, each has the monument sign. To see the full list, visit cityofpasadena.net/publicworks, then scroll down and click on "Parks and Natural Resources."

Liz, the signs were a public art project, hence the Armory's involvement.

I really hope you'll photograph all of them, Ben. They're really, really beautiful and I think it was a great idea to involve children in public artwork. The kids that painted these tiles might now be showing them to their own children.
