jacob maarse

maybe one of the most lavish store fronts in town - at least on green street. the tile around the front door, the stonework, the tall manicured trees, etc. apparently it's a high end florist - i've never been inside.

That is probably the most fancy florist shop I've ever seen!

OMG, apparently?

b'yahhhh!

They are well known for being high end florists in the SG Valley. our family has purchased arrangements and flowers from them for decades. Inside is kind of like going to Stats during Xmas time. WOW! Or, at least it was last time I was in. Floral everything everywhere. The only thing more exciting is going to the Floral Mart.

I have one snobby story though. I went in one time to get flowers to give to a few people, to bring to an event, as well as an arrangement to put on my grandfather's grave. He LOVED carnations and sweet peas---the color combinations thrilled him along with roses and other interesting flowers were all over his garden. One associate seemed a bit put off that part of my order was...carnations (gasp! They *ARE* the Italian mourning flower). I brushed back the guy by explaining WHY I was ordered the carnations along with roses and other arrangements that day and he finally realized I was paying for it, it did not matter WHAT I was ordering, or what he thought of my choices. It was what I wanted.

But on the whole, our experiences have been fantastic. Go in, but remember to take your wallet.

Trish, this is so good to know. I was wondering about this place since I haven't found a florist on this side of town yet.

Great shot of it, Ben!

Tanya, agreed! I felt the same way.

Trish, thanks for the insiders perspective. Good to confirm the bling factor in this place.

Laurie, glad to point you toward a place to buy flowers.

Inside it's like a vast warhouse of flowers.

As i type this, i'm just a 2min walk (or 15sec bikeride) from here.
Next to this is Pasadena Playhouse, a fav artisitic place of Madame Havashim.
Next to that in the courtyard is a restaurant that changes each year. Last year we had a Christmass there when it was Caravan Serai. Then it bcame Bazaar. Now i think it's closed - bizarre! 15 meters from that is Zona Rosa Caffe, a nice hole id de wall mexican themed coffeehouse, with semi-regular live music plus an upstairs. btw, bw, this makes EuroPane seem large!

I luv the crown of blue/white u captured overhead!

I have for years, enjoyed the various food wafting from nearby---but you're right, it is always something different and new.

I don't know if it still exists, but if you back up Green a skosh, I think to Madison, the other side of the street from Jacob Maarse. Sitting ON Green Street, look at the post on the "upper right" side of the intersection. It used to have a "No Stopping Any Time" sign on it that would make a hilarious photo op during a red light.

If you want a different option for a fresh floral arrangement, goto the Flower Box in SoPas on Fair Oaks. It used to be owned by the mother of a jr high friend---but I believe had been sold---lost touch with them all a few bazillion years ago.

Good to have a visitor from another part of the world. I had to seek out translation, but your visit is welcome!

Trish, I'll have to check out your suggested photo op..

Hi Ben: For many the tile around the door at Jacob Marse was covered up by stucco. Someone I know worked there and saw old pictures of it with the tile. She urged them to remove the stucco and reveal the tiles again. Finally, they did!

Hi Ben, This used to be Symes Cadillac back in the '60s. I remember going there with my grandparents to pick up their aqua blue Sedan de Ville with fins out to there!
