the cat house

yesterday i mentioned that we were up in lancaster this week.  well the reason for our journey to the high desert was to visit the cat house - a fascinating little zoo designed to educate and protect exotic cat species.

most of the feline occupants were sleeping during our visit (due to the mid-day heat), but this guy was nice enough to smile for the camera.

What a shot! I can't believe they let you get so close. Or telephoto?

Nope! The cages have a short fence only five feet from the cages. I may have zoomed a bit, but this guy felt like he was right next to me.

Awesome. We'll have to make a visit there. My boys (and I) would love to see the "kitties".

Just make sure you go in the winter, or in the morning because most were sleeping in the afternoon heat when we were there.

I hate seeing the cats confined to such small quarters. I'm not anti-zoo. My sister heads the education department for the San Diego Zoo (she was brought in to assist with setting up the education dept of the LA zoo). All her friends are involved, one way or another with habitat and species survival. These outfits just look sad.

but it is a good photo
