art walk: first stop

today's post is part of a week long theme. see monday's post for more details.

our art walk tour began at city hall. we went to check out the music there and get our maps. it was a good place to start, and the atmosphere was nice. the music was interesting to say the least. a brief bio from the website:

"la ballena de jonas" from tijuana, b.c., mexico. this eclectic group of young musicians will perform original music with a european accent of the east, of the parisian tango, mixed with tones of the middle east and jewish culture."

so, they couldn't find a LOCAL band to play? I know of several Ladino (as in Jewish/Spanish themed) bands in the area, that could incorporate similar styles that they didn't have to import them from tijuana.

I digress...am a local yokel

Great point Trish. I had no idea this kind of musical style existed, I guess I figured they were one of a kind! It is a shame that they had to fly someone in for the night, but then again I have no idea how the artists are selected.

No, no! I came to specifically see the band! They played ArtNight last March and I thought they were the best thing going! A wonderful selection, but I was disappointed with the steps of City Hall... the sound was poor. Last time they played One Colorado.

They really were interesting! The sound was a bit off, you're right.
