fatburger pasadena - coming soon?
a few weeks ago, an immovable feast pointed out that fatburger was set to move in to a old pasadena restaurant on lake avenue. i was excited. i'm always up for a new burger place in town, and the few times i've eaten at fatburger have been delicious.
but finding info about when it is actually opening has proven difficult. their facebook page claimed they would be open by october 15th (which is clearly not the case), and the coming soon sign has been hanging out for quite some time.
while out for a walk last night, i bumped into an employee who said they would be open by monday, november 1. we'll just have to see about that.

From my point of view that name would scare me off.
I'll see you there or I'll see you... another time.
I've been learning a lot about this chain - I didn't realize that it began in LA, nor that it was such a local phenominon before branching out and franchising. I think I had my first taste in central Ohio... shows how far the chain stretched out.
When I was in high school, "Fatburger vs. In-N-Out" was a legitimate debate. I have not heard anyone argue about it in a long time, though. A lot of the franchises that opened just weren't very good, and many of them closed. There used to be one on Arroyo. There used to be one on Foothill in Monrovia that was open for about two years before closing.
If the word "fat" doesn't sound too appetizing, well, that's what I think of fatburger.
So, it makes sense they're going 2 bee in Old Town.
to be clear, they are NOT going to be in Old Town. In fact, quite the opposite, on North Lake Avenue.
I believe that used to be a taco bell when we first moved into our house.
It sure looks like an old school Taco Bell.
It WAS a Taco Bell, but it was so bad, it must have lost it's franchise license because then, the owner tried to run it as a fake Taco Bell. Then, it was a fast food Chinese place. Soon after, it was a Hawaiian BBQ place! Fatburger is its latest incarnation. If you ask me, the place might be cursed, built over a chicken graveyard or something. This, FYI, is chicken triangle with Roscoe's, KFC and Pollo Unico.
By the way, our experience with the food through the drive-thru last night was bad. We were trapped for 40 minutes. Someone took our order by hand (he was walking from car to car) but the cooks prepared it too early. By the time we got to the window, the woman told us, "Your food's been sitting here for a while!" Mushy, soggy, wrong condiments and over-priced!
Sorry, can't forget Popeye's chicken too! That might actually complete the triangle since Pollo Unico used to be more hidden!
