arcadia methodist hospital

this is where my wife works. a smaller community hospital, just east of pasadena. the health care system in the usa is something i'm still getting used to, but having a spouse in the medical field gives me some fascinating insight.

heading back to pasadena today. my time in ontario has been fantastic, but it will be good to get back on the west coast - last trip of the summer is finished!

Pasadena Adjacent
That's where my mother volunteers. Maybe your wife knows if they're excepting Blue Cross again. I prefer this hospital to the Huntington but they cut out Blue Cross carriers. How "sick" is that?

I always thought this hospital was in a strange place, because it's on an island. The reason is that it's surrounded by West Huntington Drive, which is one-way on each side. It always gave me a strange feeling of inaccessibility because you can't just drive "into" it, you have to drive "around" it.

Ben, I've lived in the US all my life and I'm still getting used to the health care system here, too.

Wow, when did they put up this addition? It wasn't there when we moved from Arcadia 15 years ago. Thanks for the update. Almost exactly 18 years ago we rushed from Arcadia, past Methodist Hospital and arrived at Huntington Hospital only to have my son make his entrance into the world 11 minutes after we drove up to the ER. He was almost born in the elevator. In retrospect we should have stopped in Arcadia. By the way, I'm also from Ontario (near Peterborough) and just today my husband and I were lamenting the fact that my brother's kids don't have to worry about getting a job out of college just to make sure they have medical coverage (let's not go into the difference in the cost of college either.)

PA - I'm baffled by how health insurance is set up down here.

Mr. Earl - You're correct. It's weird that it's isolated like that.

Petrea and Laurie - why is that?

pja - thanks for the insight. there are so many sides to the coin, aren't there? good to make the ontario/california connection...

I think we were partly joking, Ben. But only partly. Our health care system makes no sense even to the natives.

No, but it does make muncho dollars for the med establishment.
