city hall details

our city hall isn't just beautiful on the outside, check out the details in the ceiling of the breezeway. i have no idea how this was built - was this whole thing one giant piece? or many small pieces assembled together?

I have no idea how it was built but I suspect those are individual plaster pieces and stuck up there some way and the cracks and fasteners are concealed under plaster. It sure does make an interesting breeze way.

Ooooh, such a pretty vantage point.

Great picture Ben! I'm gonna go with individual plaster pieces for the "flower" parts.

my understanding is that they helicoptered in a HUUUUGE piece of rock and carved the whole thing out of it. So yeah - just one piece.

Ben, when you are photographing inside buildings like this, has anyone ever stopped you or told you you're not allowed to take pictures? I am such a scaredy cat when it comes to taking pictures of things in public.

very rarely. City Hall is very welcoming to photographers - part of it may be that my camera fits in my pocket, and I can whip it out and snap off a few shots before anyone even knows.

On the other hand, it has been talked about before on this blog. There is one building that I still need to photograph secretly!
