barack 'n' roll

with the polls flip-flopping back and forth between blue and red, it's hard to say who is going to come out on top in november. tonight is the first debate, which i'm sure will mix up those polling numbers once again.

one thing for certain is that the rest of the world is pulling for obama. this photo was taken during my last trip to canada, just down the road from my parents. in some ways it's sad that canadians have a vested interest in who is the president of the usa. it would be better if it didn't matter to the rest of the world. yet the usa holds immense power - both for good and bad.

canada is also holding elections this fall. how many americans will have banners like this on their front lawn with the names of canadian polticians on them? how many americans even know who the prime minister of canada is?

ken over at stouffville daily photo recently had a blog post discussing this sign. it's worth checking out!

(no friday neon today. we'll have some for you next week)

I am trying to relax and catch up on all of your photos. Also, I am trying not to stress eat.

If lawn signs are any indication, Obama's a winner here. Doesn't it seem every other lawn has an Obama sign? Although I think the McCain voters are chicken to display signs...

Miss H, don't look at yesterday's post.

Wait, what does relaxing and not stress eating have to do with politics?? Or am I forcing you to not do the above by my posting today...

you're right Petrea, it seems like Obama has won in a land slide if you go by the lawn signs. In fact I do a double take any time I see a McCain sign on anything because it's just so rare around here - which suits me just fine I think.

I always worry about what the rest of the world pulls for. I find it's for their own self-interest - not ours.

I rarely ever recall them saying anything about dogs.

We're the USA - not everyone else.

Dogs? I don't get it...

I hear what you are saying, but I fear we are at a point where if we don't listen to the world we're really going to hurt ourselves. Maybe this is coming from my Canadian side, but when you never listen to your neighbors, you end up with a lot of enemies.

bw, i hear what you're saying brother & you may be right.

but, there have been a small number of instances where someone stands above the crowd for the right thing & is willing to die for their stance or beliefs. there are a lot more followers than leaders, more losers than champions. what appears wrong/right from close proximity, may from the perspective of history to have been otherwise.

I agree bw, if we NEVER listened to the world we wouldn't have too many friends - but I don't think that's the issue. my priority has never to be friends with the world, with popularity. we're here 2 make a difference before wanting to fit in. there are many nations who I'd much rather not be grouped with. those R sum reasons I would never be a winning politician!!

unfortunately, these establishment party cronies are only going to be a relative improvement on bush.

bw, i'd vote 4 your wife & you way before i'd vote for these phonies.

this political crap leaves a bad taste worse than eating bad food.
why do i waste so much of my time on this political nonsense.

now, where's man's best friend?!

We live in a globalized world. Isn't that what the politicians wanted?

We're not what we once were; we are deeply in debt to other nations and we must be keenly aware that we do not walk alone.

America is not separate. We are OF the world. Popularity isn't the important thing; it's realizing that we're not the only ones here, and that we share this planet with others who are just as important (and powerful) as we are.
