canterbury records inc.

back home today. a great trip, but good to be back in pasadena! this image was taken last month. i love that the painter is up there painting around a sign that is missing the letter p. so much going on in this shot.

canterbury is really a fantastic record store (that actually still carries a lot of vinyl), the kind of place that has sadly become rare in a world of digital downloads and super walmarts.

I've been by a gazilllion times and have never dropped in. I'm thinking maybe I should after reading your description. Welcome back to life under the big white sky.

The old record stores really are a dying breed. I used to go to a place called Poobah's in Pasadena years ago. You could find some great rare stuff. Do you know if they're still around?

You really should drop in Palm!

Keith, I have never seen or heard of that place but I'll keep my eyes open!

Like Palm, I've been by a million times and never stopped in. Good post, Ben. Glad you're back.

Hey I was thinking: how about some posts about Fuller? You're the authority among us. If you don't do it I might, and how good can that be?

Keith, Poobahs Records is still in Pasadena (last I ck'd!). On Colorado near San Gabriel Blvd. It used to be more centrally Pasadena located on, my memory is failing here - either Walnut or Colorado.

And I don't know how much longer Canterbury can stay where they are.

bw, welcome bak. Long time no see!

Petrea, I need to do more of my school. I have done several postings - http://theskyisbig.blogspot.com/search/label/fuller%20seminary - but I guess it's been a while.

Life Observer, thanks for the insight!

I've never been in Canterbury Records either...

Ben, those are great! They were all posted before I knew about city daily photo blogs, and you. I really like them. It also points up the good thing about tagging these photos; you can create a temporary "theme page." So I just enjoyed Ben's "Fuller page."

Poobah Records was at the north east corner of Walnut and Wilson. Back in the 70's or 80's Canterbury was right inbetween See's Candy and the Samurai restaurant; I used to visit all 3 on a regular basis. I think Canterbury took over the old See's Candy store on the corner when they expanded.

Wilson and Walnut, eh? Seems like a strange place for a record shop, but I'm sure the city has changed a lot since back then.

Actually that intersection looks pretty much the same as when I was a kid...the house where Poobahs was located is still there; it was a yarn store the last I checked.

Poobah Records moved to 2636 E Colorado Blvd, right by the Guitar Center.

Ah, I should go check it out.
